Online therapy in English, with a psychologist who truly understands non-monogamy
Polyamory, open relationships, relationship anarchy or your own design — you won’t have to explain or justify your relationship structure here. That part, I already get.
Why this matters
Many non-monogamous people spend half of their therapy sessions educating their therapist — or worse, defending their relationships from subtle judgment. Research on ethical non-monogamy consistently shows this is one of the main reasons people in ENM relationships avoid or abandon therapy.
I’ve spent the last 20 years on the other side of that problem: as a clinical psychologist, sex therapist and couples therapist specialized in consensual non-monogamy, working with the largest non-monogamous community in Brazil. Jealousy and compersion, opening up a relationship, metamour dynamics, hierarchy questions, coming out to family — these are my everyday clinical work, not exotic cases.
About me
Filipe Starling — clinical psychologist licensed in Brazil (CRP 01/12386), sex therapist and couples therapist. Author of Não Monogamia Responsável (“Responsible Non-Monogamy”), a reference book on the subject in Portuguese, and creator of Aldeia Não Mono, Brazil’s largest social network for non-monogamous people, with thousands of members. Over 20 years of clinical practice in relationships, sexuality and contemporary bonds.
About the license: CRP is the Brazilian equivalent of a state psychology license — issued by the Regional Council of Psychology, which regulates and supervises clinical practice in Brazil. Online therapy is fully regulated and authorized by the Brazilian Federal Council of Psychology.
How it works
- Online, from wherever you are. Video sessions, entirely in English.
- Time zones are easy. I’m based in Brasília (GMT-3) — evening slots in Europe and daytime slots in North America line up naturally with my working hours.
- International payment. You pay in Brazilian reais — we’ll sort out the easiest international payment option for you. And that’s exactly where it gets interesting:
The honest math
Therapy in the US or Europe typically costs US$ 120–200 (€ 110–180) per session. Because I practice in Brazil and charge in Brazilian reais (R$ 300 per session), the exchange rate works strongly in your favor: a session with a specialist with 20+ years of experience costs you the equivalent of ≈ US$ 60 / € 50. Not because it’s discount therapy — your currency simply goes further here. Same specialist, same session, different economy.
Frequently asked questions
Is your English fluent enough for deep emotional work?
Sessions run entirely in English.
Are you licensed to see me if I live in the US or Europe?
I’m a licensed psychologist in Brazil, where I practice. You attend sessions as an international client of a Brazilian professional — an arrangement many people around the world already use with therapists abroad.
Is it confidential?
Yes. Brazilian psychology has strict, legally enforced confidentiality rules, identical in spirit to what you’d expect at home.
What’s your approach?
Evidence-based clinical psychology, with specialization in sexuality and relationship diversity. No pathologizing of consensual relationship structures — ever.
I’m monogamous or questioning. Can I come too?
Of course. Many of my clients are somewhere on the path of questioning what relationship model fits them.
How do we start?
A first conversation on WhatsApp, so you can share what’s going on and see if we’re a good fit.
